SA iNaturalists - March 2021 Update

This March saw 7,280 observations covering 1,771 species from 400 observers. There were 88 species receiving their first iNat record in SA. This month there were 93 new observers contributing their first observations in SA. Upon this months observations, 447 identifiers contributed a total of 12,409 identifications.
Uploads for SA at the end of March stand at 186,287 observations of 7,490 species from 2,937 observers with, as of today, 3,566 identifiers providing 340,265 identifications. It's beginning to look like we'll push past 200,000 observations sometime during May. The first 100k observations in SA took 9 years. The next 100k has taken around 12 months!
Woodland Birds across the Mounty Lofty Ranges are on the decline. That which has been anecdotally apparent is supported by a recently published study demonstrating 38 of 65 monitored species have declined over the last 20 years. So if you're out with your camera, keep an eye out for some of these small woodland species and upload your observations, so that future generations have a sound understanding of exactly where these species used to reside. A summary of the findings, including a list of which species are in decline, can be found HERE on the Nature Conservation Society of South Australia website.
