Anomis privata (Walker, 1865)

Page 135: "Rusicada privata – In our check list (Lafontaine and Schmidt 2010) we retained a broad concept of the genus Anomis Hübner on the basis that Holloway’s (2005) generic rearrangement for the Old World Anomis s.l. fauna excluded the New World taxa, accepting that a separate revision of New World generic limits in Anomis s.l. was needed first. However, the species Anomis commoda (Walker, 1865) is an introduced species that belongs to the Old World genus Rusicada Walker, so it seems reasonable to accept this generic transfer for consistency between Old World and New World names for shared species."

Moths of Borneo (parts 15 & 16 - Catocalinae)
Holloway, 2005, http://www.mothsofborneo.com/part-15-16/index.htm, added 2013-04-16 09:12:58 -0500
J.D.Holloway (2005) revised Anomis, reviving the genus Rusicada (moths of Borneo - http://www.mothsofborneo.com/part-15-16/scoliopterygini/scoliopterygini_5.php) for the larger, red / brick coloured Anomis species. However, subsequent to the publication of parts 15 & 16 of the moths of Borneo, in part 2 (2011), p.384, Holloway also notes (note 428, reproduced here in full, as this is not on-line yet):
"In Parts 15 & 16 it was overlooked that Poole (1989: 88, 90) had revised the opinions of Nye (1975) on the identity of the type species of Anomis Hübner, indicating it to be erosa Hübner. This taxon is psrt of the complex attributed to Cosmophila Boisduval for Borneo, so these species must revert to Anomis. This reopens the question of the generic placement of a large number of New World species related to exacta Hübner, the species recognised as the type species of Anomis by Nye (1975). For this reason, Lafontaine & Schmidt (2010) have retained all N.American taxa of the complex in Anomis. However, those assigned to Gonitis Guenée and Rusicada Walker in Parts 15 & 16 are still listed under these genera here".

Looks good. Presumably A. privata will become inactive. How does it get listed as a synonym of R. privata?

Publicado por krancmm hace más de 4 años

It is now marked as inactive. It's in the list of taxon names for R. privata, indicating it's a name but not a true name. If you start typing in the name A. privata, in either a name search or as a suggestion for an identification, the suggestion that pops up now is R. privata.

@hkmoths Roger, take a look at the Mexico obs. 99+% sure it isn't R. privata but can't find another Anomis that fits on BOLD. Any ideas? Just to warm you up for Ecuador...

Please put me on the list for Ecuador in 2020! After seeing Genevieve Gates pix on FB from Puyo I was ready to book the next flight out...
