This mature, old manzanita grew into a gnarly tree-like formation, and its trunk was thick indeed! The bark was smooth and maroon/red, and the leaves were wide, light-green, and rounded at the ends. The red-brown, dusky berries were in sheer abundance, occupying the tips of most of the shrub's stems. These lived in the Lower Montane Forest among the open clearings.
