Growing under mixed Poplar species (Black Cottonwood, Red Alder) in humus under leaves. The specimen has a wrinkled/streaked brown cap with slight scales and a hygrophanous nature. The cap is highly umbonate with an inrolled margin that stays inrolled as the cap flattens with age. The gills are light gray-lilac when young and mature into a rusty orange-brown (possibly spores). They are notched at the stem and close to crowded in mature specimens. The stipe is a creamy gray with a bulbous base and fibrous texture that darkens with age. It has a firm texture and is fibrillose enough to peel like string cheese. The species pictured with lilac/violet hyphae at its base and a purple tinge much like L. amethysteo-occidentalis was collected a few inches away from the others. I originally thought they were the same species but have since identified it as nameless (according to Joe Ammarati). No veil present on either species.
