A split from California Ebony Tarantula. This is the same species as was recently discovered by DNA studies as the one in the western Sierra foothills, and named Aphonopelma johnnycashi because the type specimen was collected at Folsom Prison which is within tarantula-walking distance from here.

first garter snake i've seen in the several years i've frequented this area, a fisher caught it on their line and said they've seen a few over the years. I helped get the hook out of the snake, very chill snake considering i was pulling a hook out of it, ... although, it's been an hour and my hands still slightly smell like musk lol
