Descripción

Known worldwide as the Arapaima. Known only in Peru as the Paiche. The man in the photo in white, caught the fish in the Huallaga River near Tarapoto. It is one of very few in it's class/specie, that HAS to breath air. Over the last 50 years, most of the largest ones have been caught. They still remain in the wild, but more are being cared for in private ponds and fisheries throughout the world. They are a unique fish and VERY beautiful. I have included one photo (the last one) that I did not personally take, to show comparison to the size that once roamed the waters of South America.

Descripción

Found between 5:00 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. Temperature dropped from low 60s to mid-50s (Fahrenheit) while searching. Cloudy skies, light breeze, fairly high humidity, and sprinkling on and off.

There appeared to be a high density at this location. Most commonly found under logs and rocks on the slopes of a ravine and a dry stream bed.

There was rainfall on the night of September 14 (Saturday) into the morning of September 15 (Sunday), which ended a long dry spell.
