In shallow pits on outside of rolled leaves of Ficus microcarpa induced by Trioza brevigenae. This is the "unidentified possible psyllid" discussed in
http://ucanr.edu/sites/HodelPalmsTrees/files/242336.pdf
and illustrated in figures 18 and 19 of that paper. It is suspected that this may be a psyllid that is potentially involved in a symbiotic relationship with the Ficus-leaf Rolling Psyllid, but the adults are unknown. I have found these to be fairly common on rolled Ficus microcarpa leaves and I have collected several in an attempt to rear them to adulthood.

Many of the gum leaves blowing in from the neighbour's yard are coated with these encrustations. These are from April last year, when it was much dryer than this year. They look like miniature sea scallops. When I prise them off the leaf there's nobody home underneath. The third photo shows one of the lerp insects, perhaps a nymph because the wings are rudimentary. Maleny, Qld.

There were plenty of these psyllid lerps on the Eucalypt leaves around Herdsmans lake. The most prolific insect life I found on the trip, just around that lake. I didn't see them in any of the dry locations I went to.

I'm assuming this is newly emerged. On the third photo the discarded exuvia is evident on the right.
I'd also like to know the ID of the brown shells on the photos. Thought at first they were scale but the shape is more like a lerp ie. Hyalinaspis sp. I'm wondering whether they belong to the Psyllid species shown here or where they're coincidental. Will give it a separate entry if its found to be coincidental.

At first when I saw them I thought they were hoverfly larvae, then I thought maybe a scale insect. Update: Now that I have looked closely at the underside & head I think it must be something else. Unfortunately, these are about the best photo's I can get with my little pocket macro camera.
Note: this is not something I am able to collect and grow to see what it becomes.
