Have been tracking 2 very large canines in the snow over the past few days, and finally found some scat on the side of a mound in an elevated position. Does not appear to be domesticated dog scat and is larger than any coyote scat I've seen in the area. Planning on returning to the area to recover the scat today, didn't have anything to store it in.

The trails definitely lead me away from thinking domestic dog because they originated and return to a large woods, often traveling along the ridge of a creek bed. I'll pull together the rest of the pictures and post more showing the size of the strides, as well as some coyote prints in the same snow-covered areas.

Trail Camera caught this big fella a few nights ago. Was able to confirm some size relative to the saplings in the pictures. I'd comfortably estimate his shoulder height at 27-28", and my best guess at his group length was 46-48". I'm unclear if it was a Wolf, large Coyote, or "CoyWolf", but the app auto chose "Gray Wolf" from the pictures. Any thoughts?

My trail camera picked up this beautiful Canid this morning. The app automatically chose "Gray Wolf" upon my upload, yet I'm told we don't have an active wolf population in NE Indiana.

For size comparison, the last 2 pics show a 36" yardstick standing vertically against an old fence-post that is leaning slightly to the left. If I'm doing the angles correctly, the shoulders on this beautiful beast are over 36" tall and possibly 40-42", which I believe take it out of the Coyote size range.

With its light brown color, is this likely a "Coywolf" and not a full-blooded gray wolf?

This location is the ridge on top of a creek bank and I have another camera where the creek runs into the woods. That camera didn't pick him up, so he had taken a common path lower down the bank of the creek and come up before this camera spotted him. He was quick... the 30 second video starts after a 2 second pause and it didn't catch a glimpse of him! His size and location fit extremely well with the many tracks and scat that I've posted recently from both sides (N & S) of this creek.
