I've monitored this species in Whanganui (the first place it was recorded in NZ) for> 20 years and it has not spread far beyond the early sites, within about 1 km radius. Its spread has been much slower than I'd anticipated. No-one, apart from some householders, has attempted to control it. However, any new site, like Banks Peninsula, should try and eliminate it asap.

Eight plants - four with immature inflorescences, one also with a previous seasons inflorescence (withered) attached. Growing on steep. eroding clay at top of cliff face under pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa).
