at right (yellow arrow); showing "juvenile" features, side-by-side with "adult" American Elm and Slippery Elm for comparison. Frequently, such young and vigorous-growing Ulmus americana have rough-textured leaves and are liable to be confused with Ulmus rubra; be sure to check leaf details other than texture such as vein patterns, teeth size, etc. and also the buds which are different from Ulmus rubra. A juvenile Ulmus rubra in situ on Petrie island for comparison here:

Growing like gangbusters underwater on limestone bedrock, boulders, and cobbles below dam spillway. I don't think I have seen this moss here in previous years. Magnified photos added. Unlike syntopic Lepodictyum riparium https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/26016827 this moss is not complanate, instead having the leaves densely packed and sticking out all around the stem making it look spiky or furry. Another difference is that the costa extends all the way to the very tip of the leaf. It looks a lot like Campylium stellatum https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/25753512 but that species lacks a costa.

Small liverwort found on slightly exposed rock in a clean small stream in a deciduous forest. The photos were taken through macro and microscopes. The 1st photo is top view at 40x, 2nd and 3rd photos are of underside at 40x, all lit from above. The 4th photo is 100x and last photo is at 400x, lit from below. Marked in the 3rd photo are an underleaf along the stem, and a lobule showing it is narrow and parallel to the stem.
When hydrated, the plant is a pale green, but when dried it is a dark, almost black, green.
