We have seen at least 4 sightings in our backyard over the past few months of live European hornets but no evidence of a nest nearby yet... We often hear them before we see them and have also seen many photos of them shared in local neighborhood FB groups. They are somewhat intimidating in size but don't seem to be aggressive towards humans. They are often nearby our pergola which has some rotting wood, and many ants so we suspect they may be seeking food source here or maybe just resting during flight. This little guy was unlucky to find his way inside somehow, and was unalived in our basement without access to food or water... we have no idea how he found his way in as we keep the basement access door sealed off. No sign of nest or other hornets in basement or walls etc.
