Roan High Bluff Trail. Found in a fallen flying squirrel nest box, lying rotten on the spruce-fir forest floor at 6100 feet. Living adult, dark brown coloration, no parietal tooth.

Amazing camouflage when they’re at rest (second pic) and not swimming away from a snorkeler (me)(all pics other than the second pic). Strong current in primary gravel substrate. Tilton Creek. Map location is not very accurate. Shot with iPhone 6S with a thankfully waterproof as advertised case.

We have a small stream that runs through our field. (large front yard) This small, slow moving stream dumps into a little bigger creek. (The small moving stream is less than two feet apart) These darters used to live in this small, slow moving stream. Sometimes this stream has a rainbow colored oily surface. Water Purslane and a type of green algae grow in this stream. The darter’s beautiful colors are a powerful witness to their Creator, Jesus.
