I thought this was a green anole attempting to mate with a brown anole because I thought green anole females had a single pale stripe on their back, and brown anoles had more complex patterns, and this was how to tell them apart when they're the same color.

I looked at a bunch of anole pictures to get a better idea of the range of variation in female green anole patterns. The single stripe can be more complex than just a simple line, so this appears to be a female green anole after all. Brown anoles are more likely to have multiple stripes and speckles.
