March, 2017 nature journal entry; Walton County, Georgia. A flurry of back and forth flights directed my eye to a tree stump leaning over the water’s edge. Brown-headed Nuthatches (Sitta pusilla) were making runs to a small opening in the stump and disappearing in the shadowy hole. Zooming in, I saw the incoming flights carried small pieces of... http://williamwisephoto.com/photographyblog/nuthatch-nest

Finally, something that gets me excited about Bullfrogs again...

I stopped for a Spring Peeper, and then noticed a yellow object with a red reflection, a ways down the road. I assumed it was some trash, and then realized as I got closer that reflection was an eye shine.

Whoo! Another one of these rarities. Found road cruising, and I moved him out of the road to avoid being like the one 20 feet away: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/25854816

Extremely rare species north of southern North Carolina. This is the second VA iNat record (I have the first as well). VHS knows of a population, which I have been acquainted with, nearby. At this point, I may have seen/heard more of these in VA than anyone else.

First iNat record for Virginia and my 2,000th observation! Though I am more than acquainted with this Critically Endangered VA species, this is my first time posting one to iNat.

Evan Spears (@easpears) and I were out road cruising when I saw a large flat frog in the road. I could see it enough to tell it was a treefrog and assumed it was a Cope's Gray. I pulled up next to it, on Evan's side of the car. He then answered with, "You may want to look at this one... It's green." I about blew off the door of the car, because I already knew due to shape and color it was my absolute favorite Treefrog. We photoed the giant treefrog, and moved it across the ditch. Perhaps my best Herp I have had in VA this year.

One of 32 Herp species we had this day.
