Elk Island has played a big role in reintroducing bison into Canada. The park has transported bison to other parks including Grasslands, Banff, and Prince Albert National Parks. The park is home to both the Woods Bison and the Plains Bison. Woods Bison live farther north and are large in appearance than the Plains Bison.
The American Beaver is America's largest rodent. They are famous for creating dams and lodges. The dams and lodges are a mix of wood and mud. The mud acts like a natural concrete. These dams are important, as they create ponds and habitats for other animals. From waterfowl to Moose, beavers are called ecosystem engineers. Their lodges are where they call home and the entrance to these lodges is accessible underwater.
