broom-rape next to Middle Fork Kaweah River trail
This Bluejay was surprised to suddenly come across this female Great Horned Owl.
Great Horned Owl. Biking up Mount Hamilton on what would have been my son, Joseph's, 23rd birthday, 5 years after he died. Looked over and noticed these 4 identical lumps on a branch.By the time I got off my bike and got out the camera, one by one three of them turned around, saw me and took off. Fortunatley, the 4th one waited long enough for me to catch him when he turned around...
Crows trying to take owl's kill.
It's kind of hard to be sure, but I think the lower one is laying the eggs that are next to it. Score.
Ancula gibbosa was probably the second most abundant slug. I must have seen about 10 individuals, which is way more than the 0 - 1 I usually see.
The nudibranch Ancula gibbosa, observed in a tidepool at Bean Hollow State Beach in Pescadero, CA.
So this tiny little thing on some algae in my favorite tidepool, early in the morning. Found a second later in the morning, but didn't get a pic.
