The Virginia Ctenucha moth has various distinguishing characteristics:
∙ forewing and hindwings are grayish-dark brown in colour
∙ orange head and collar sides
∙ abdomen and thorax is a metallic shade of blue

Family Curculionidae: Head is projected into a long beak. Mouthparts are located at the tip of the snout.
Slender, wasp-like. Antennae with 16 or more segments and usually at least half as long as body. Horsehead cell visible in front wing (i.e. forewings lack a costal cell).
