A nice tuft growing on an unknown tree in an urban area.
Found on the side of the stairway at Evergreen, almost missed it due to its ability to blend in with leaf litter. The thallus is foliose and loosely appresses to its soil substrate. Upper surface is a darker grayish green color while the underside is drastically white with numerous long, slender rhizines. There are distinct narrow veins on the underside of the lobes that causes the top of the lobes to look indented. There are also distinct organish brown apothecia surrounding the margins of the lobes.
Elevation: 180ft AMSL
Sub: Humus - conifer
Ecosystem: Second growth forest - conifer/mixed dominance.
Assoc: Kindbergia oregnana, Gaultheria shallon, Vaccinium spp, Psuedotsuga menziesii
Notes: Viscid red-orange cap with striate texture and convex shape. Straight margin. Adnate, unequal gills with close/crowded spacing. Equal, hollow stipe (practically transparent!) with yellow coloration and viscid texture. Solitary. No distinct taste/smell.
My family picked this Amanita Muscaria on a walk. I put it in a plastic bag to conserve, I plan on inoculating my sideyard.
Growing on old sun-bleached conifer wood
Weather: ~60° F - clear skies. Rain earlier in the day.
Environment: found near open field near trail. Several foxglove individuals present. Pictured individual stood out due to uncommon coloration of flowers. Few trees overhead: primarily P. menseizii, but T. heterophylla also present.
