Canopy irregular, about 60%: Abies fraseri, Picea rubens, a few Sorbus americana. Shrub layer almost entirely sapling Abies, a few Vaccinium erythrocarpon. Branch leaf 1.5 x 0.6mm, stem leaf 1.3 x 0.8mm.

Sample B, small very sandy rivulet on upper trail side. 1750ft elev. Canopy ~60%: Pinus rigida, Oxydendrum, Tsuga, Liquidambar, Acer rubrum var. trilobum. Herb layer: Vaccinium hirsutum, Chasmanthium, Platanthera ciliaris. Branch leaf 1.7 x 0.7mm, stem leaf 1.2 x 0.6mm.
On a masonry wall. Characteristic hair tips on leaf apices and involute leaf margins almost hiding the crop of green gummy-like gemmae. An easy moss to love.
