A small group in compost covered area of the yard. Dark purple black spore print. Cap turns dark reddish brown with KOH.
Growing on a small branch of unknown species.
Growing on ground in mossy lawn grass.
Unusual form – two stipes with conjoined cap. Only one (or two?) individuals found.
Cap reddish tan, concave and depressed in center, but caps joined in a wave. Small appressed scales near center. Hygrophonous. What might have been depressions or holes at center of cap appear as slits. Each cap would be about 7 to 10 cm in diameter.
Gills fairly thick, smooth, widely spaced. Rosy tan colored. Three tiered, longest gills adnate. Gill margins entire.
Stipes tan, 2.5 to 3 cm tall, Compressed in cross section - 1 to 1.5 cm wide by .5 cm. Longer axis wider near cap - but that may be part of the deformity. Fibrous, solid (but central hold in cap extends down into stipe 2-3 cm), firm, tough. Interior flesh white.
Odor mild, indistinct.
Spore print white. Spores Globose or sub-globose, about 6 – 7 microns diameter, spiny or lumpy.
It’s very large for L. laccatta,
It looks more like photos of L. proxima, but spores are not ellipsoid
In mixed conifer forest, mostly Douglas Fir and Western Hemlock, about 2500' growing in duff on the side of the road. Multiple specimens widely spaced but mostly in a line. Lovely blueish color and a very sweet anise or vanilla odor. A very beautiful mushroom. Still very fragrant after drying for 2 days. My new favorite mushroom.
Silky fibrous cap, strong smell of green corn, mid-brown spore print. Stipe 8cm. In mixed forest, mostly Douglas Fir and Hemlock
