Recording this observation for my friend who is currently staying in China. Coords are georeferenced near her residence where the turtle was found, as per Google Maps. The red board is covering a hole where the turtle was found. According to her, "Yeah we kind of ended up at (alligator?) snapping turtle as well, but yes this is in China and I’m not sure that they’ve been introduced here... apparently this one was found during a construction project while they were digging up around wastewater/drainage pipes??" I did some online research and found that snapping turtles are indeed farmed in China...could this be an escaped turtle/offspring of an escapee?! Not sure what the ecological implications are of invasive snapping turtles, considering how many of China's turtle species are endangered I can't imagine it being very good...
Abandoned pet
this turtle blocked the narrow road along the lake. We picked it up and sort of tossed it in the grassy verge.
Not because the Japanese man and I meant to be rough, we were slightly worried it would snap.
