Maybe somewhere close to Prionochaeta? https://bugguide.net/node/view/914395/bgpage Small (about 5 mm), found in pitch pine/scrub oak barren.
First bug I saw and probably the coolest one, too.
Had to go to Trader Joe's from Baltimore and checked the drive up to see what wooded areas I could check out for a little bioblitzing fun. Decided Glen Woods on the Towson University campus would be a cool stop. There was a light rain on and off and I already got my first tick crawling on me today. It was tiny too but I was too busy trying to get it off my arm and didn't stop take a picture.

iNat suggestion for ID, but it seems like a good fit. Dry oak woodland; beetle was moving slowly but alive. As a size reference, the wedding band visible in several of the photos is 3.8 mm wide.
Noticed lots of jumping worms in leaf matter alongside trail 42 Willowdale State Forest, while pulling invasive glossy buckthorn with other volunteers.
