I'm wondering if the identity of this deceased turtle near Pensacola can be narrowed any. The carapace is about 7 to 8 in. long and high-arched. I can't tell anything about the pattern. The animal expired in a very sandy upland pine-hardwood woodland adjacent to (surrounded by) a freshwater wetland/detention pond. Based on the profile I can rule out map turtles, cooters, sliders, snappers, and softshells. I think I can rule out Gopher Tortoise since the marginal scutes on the sides have sharp corners rather than being rounded. Other than that, I'm clueless.
Baby box turtle crawling on surface of the hillside in area between road and more wooded forest. A second baby turtle was also seen at the site.
Found in a wooded area composed of tall grasses, leaf litter, and large rocks.
Young Box Turtle, small ridges on the back of its shell, blackish color with hints of yellows and oranges emerging.
