Visiting Ficaria verna
Female on Rhus aramoatica in a dry upland forest close to a domomite prairie.
Is this A. splendens? After reading both Mitchell (1960)and Roberts (1972,) I remain confused. However, I think I captured enough detail here for someone to figure out which of the three possibilities it is. In particular, note the dorsal surface of the propodeum shows nicely in images 1 through 3, displaying a rather obvious triangle next to the metanotum. But you can also examine the mandibles, the leg color, the pronotal lateral angle, the length of the pubescence on the scutum, and of course the wing color.
