Leaflets broadly lancelot. Pods 7 cm. Growing roadside with Rubus armeniacus, surrounded by a gravelly field of grasses and Daucus carota. Partially cloudy day, light wind.
Observed along trail in mixed conifer forest in Sequim, WA July 16, 2021. Inflorescence in umbels, leaves opposite with teeth at margins. Quite prolific at higher elevation although observed throughout the trail. Neighboring plants Gaultheria shallon and Linnaea borealis.

Habitat: Wetland and Riparian Forest. The dominant overstory is Douglas fir, Bigleaf Maple, and Western Red Cedar.
Diagnostic features: Rose colored flowers that are arranged in conical plumes.
This Vine Maple was growing by my campsite at Mount Hood Village. As a shrub, about 2.5 meters tall, it fit in well with the other shrubs in the understory below Bigleaf Maples and Douglas-fir.
The weather was sunny with the temperature in the mid 80's. Soil was dry.
Vine Maples are native to the PNW. They are relatively easy to identify do to their distinctive serrated 7 to 9 lobed leaves. In the fall the leaves change color from green to yellow or red.

I went to the playground with my family in Sandy Oregon and found this Beaked Hazelnut growing next to the trail leading up to the park.
The weather was a sunny day. The temperature was in the high 70's. Soil was dry.
You can identify a Beaked Hazelnut by its soft double serrated leaves. They have a fruit in the form of nuts and can be found at the end of their branches under the leaves.

ID'd by the three leaflets sharply toothed and yellow colored almost mature berries
