Frustratingly difficult to photograph - either nearly in focus and green, or white, overly bright and not clear!
Flowering in the area is pretty much over. The species seems to be doing well and has expanded its range. As noted by a friend in the Porirua reserve back in 2016, matai seems to be a companion species here. Not all matai have an orchid presence but all the orchid patches were close to a matai so obvious ground conditions may play a part as well.
There is some variation in the size of the plants.
Not sure what to call this, leaf shape is like that of Corybas orbiculatus but the epals and petals which are longer than the labellum. Only other species it matches is Corybas confusus?
Two small flowering specimens and a few more in bud. Growing in what i would call an "orchid band" as most of the corybas and pterostylis in the area seem to lie in an area where the overhead cover and the moisture levels must be optimum. This entity fits P. irsoniana best but has a few characteristics that are unusual for this species.
This is something a little different. I can't 100% place it in any species as the post anther is quite unique. Stem dark maroon, bract clasping; basal leaf erect, green with red margin. Last flower on the plant remaining so quite early... anyone like to add any suggestions/thoughts? @bill-nz @mike68lusk @ianstgeorge @memopob @caqalai
Maybe P. australis? Trying to learn how to ID greenhoods, finding it confusing so far, any advice appreciated
saw these sea snails on the rocks in some of the wee pools of water.
