I post only images that have some degree of artistic or scientific interest. I emphasize high quality: sharp focus, uncluttered background, and revealing detail; failing that I will not post a shot unless it is a rarity or shows unusual behavior.

My photos have appeared in a number of field guides and other publications, most recently Merrill Peterson’s “Pacific Northwest Insects.” My photo of a gartersnake eating a poisonous newt (2006) was the first photographic evidence of the behavior; that one made the cover of "Current Biology.”

My photos are watermarked. Permission to use them will be granted to all who ask.
