I'm an avid naturalist and nature photographer. Professionally, I'm an entomologist specializing in aquatic insects and in particular Odonata (Dragonflies and Damselflies). I spent 15 years at the University of Texas at Austin as Curator of Entomology. I'm now the Director of Museum Research and Collections for the University of Alabama Museums in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
I created/manage three citizen science websites on dragonflies and damselflies -
OdonataCentral (www.OdonataCentral.org)
Migratory Dragonfly Partnership (www.MigratoryDragonflyPartnership.org)
Pond Watch (www.PondWatch.org)
I've written a number of books on dragonflies, http://www.abbottnature.com/books/ and along with my wife, I'm currently writing the new Peterson Field Guide to North American Insects and a field guide to the Common Insects of Texas.
I'm also an avid nature photographer, specializing in macro and specialized techniques such as high-speed flash and focus stacking. You can view some of my work at -
