iNaturalist in our National Parks 2016-01-26

We’re getting ready for the upcoming National Parks BioBlitz across the country happening May 16-22, and throughout 2016 with our partners at the National Park Service and National Geographic Society. This is part of the 2016 National Park Service Centennial celebration.

As part of this collaboration, we're cleaning up National Park boundaries in iNaturalist so that we can keep track of what will be seen during the BioBlitz. Just for fun, here's a map that gives an overview of what kind of activity on iNaturalist that has happened within the Park System so far*.

We count 96,100 observations within the Park System, with observations from 69% of the individual parks. The size of the circles represents the number of observations. Click on a park to check it out on iNaturalist.org

*We've got most (357) of the parks loaded, but are still waiting on 18 more parks from the D.C. area from the Park Service.
