How to help with identifications of Schoenus

Identifying Veldrushes is not that difficult, provided one has a few nice photographs.
Ideally one needs a close-up photo of the flowerhead, showing the bracts and flowers and stems - fortunately this is persistent and may remain on the plant for some time. Almost invariably a picture of the habit (and habitat) is provided, and this too is invaluable.
And really this is all that is needed: a picture of the flowerhead and of the habit. But a close up of the culm base (at the ground) will also help.

Plants without flowers or with only early buds are often not possible to identify.

We have most of the species on iNaturalist, so you can make identifications using the "Identotron" - just make the ID as Schoenus and then click on the "Compare" button in the ID box. Adjust your place if needed and check the options. If there is not a match, try making your place a bit bigger (the nested places are displayed).
Or use this link:

If you would like to help us keep identifications up to date and complete, then please use the Identification-curatorial tool.
These are the species that need your attention:

Note that sometimes it is not possible to identify to species level, but then try and get the "Group" - that at least narrows it down to fewer species.

Have fun!
