Last year's City Nature Challenge in Mendocino County was a great success... 1427 observations, including 618 species were made by 287 participants! Let's show the world how much nature is in Mendocino County. All you need to do is to take photos of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms you see in your backyard, local park (or botanical garden), school yard, or in any urban, suburban, or rural area in Mendocino County. Then upload your observations to iNaturalist so you can help us document nature in Mendocino County. The goal is to learn more about our local biodiversity as we observe the variety of species that call this area home. Observation period for City Nature Challenge 2021 runs April 30 - May 3.
Participating organizations in 2021 include UC California Naturalist, Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, UC Hopland Research & Extension Center, Sanhedrin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society, and Peregrine Audubon Society.
