Hey everyone,
I know I've been pretty quiet lately but don't worry - I'm still here and I'll be taking a look at the 2021 Big Year results over the next few days.
In the meantime, I encourage you to share your observations within 50 km of your home in the comments below using the instructions in this journal post. I realize that some people might not be comfortable sharing the exact coordinates of their home, so feel free to use the middle of your city, town, county or some other landmark meaningful to you as the centre of your circle. (But please don't manipulate your circle too much just to capture a few more observations here or there ;)).
Here's the URL for my 50 km circle as an example: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?d1=2021-01-01&iconic_taxa=Plantae&lat=43.3153&lng=-80.3658&place_id=any&radius=50&subview=map&user_id=wdvanhem
Happy New Year!

Looks like this includes everything I got today as well, but that would only impact my number of observations, as every plant I got today I would've also got last year

Kind of wish my circle extended a little more east, but here it is!

I've moved this year so didn't really participate in the 50km challenge but I just want to say thanks for running the project this year! It's been a great resource and I've loved to see everyone's attempts at the 1000 species goal
I spent most of the year at home but the last four months on my uni campus, so I’ve centered my circle to try to capture most of the area around my home while also squeezing campus into the circle. Not sure if that still counts?

I do have some plants in backlog, but I don't think it would be anything more than 15 additional species for my circle
Bit of a slower year for myself but still a decent result. Thanks for putting this together every year!

I think the 1,000 in 50 challenge should stand until someone pulls it off! Thanks for organizing and crunching some stats Will!

I agree @pwdeacon, I know I could do it in my home circle with a bit of planning. I might try it this year. And thanks Will for another fun year of the Botanists’ project!
I followed the instructions and it worked just fine! My results are 762 species, 1323 observations. I could have gotten at least 50-75 species more if I had gotten to Mount Forest Bog, Luther Marsh, North Dumfries, South Dumfries and Brantford. But I did what I could with the time I had and I am happy with 762!!
@g_buck I think you're the closest one to winning the challenge!
