Upload and ID Observations

Hello Inland Empire Users,

We have now completed the observation period of the City Nature Challenge (April 30 - May 3) and have entered the upload and identification period, which will last until May 9. That means you have a few more days to upload any observations taken over the weekend and you can help improve data quality of observations by suggesting taxon IDs. Let's try and get as many observations to "ResearchGrade" as possible!

If you are an experienced user, please help out those who are new and may have just joined iNaturalist for the City Nature Challenge. Here are some tips and tricks you can use to modify searches to find observations from new accounts and from iOS/Android: https://www.inaturalist.org/blog/23794-tips-and-tricks-for-welcoming-helping-new-users.

By connecting with and helping support our new members, you'll encourage ongoing participation and make a stronger foundation to build on next year. Thanks for all your help!

CNC starts THIS Friday!

Are you as excited as I am for our second Inland Empire City Nature Challenge?! Our goal is to make over 12,000 observations this year! Starting Friday, get outdoors and document any nature you can find.

Check out some of the resources from our local partners, including this helpful YouTube Video by Chelsea Martin (LLU): https://youtu.be/IryXZq0UxxA, and virtual events from the San Bernardino County Museum (in collaboration with the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District): http://www.sbcounty.gov/museum/discover/earth_day.html

Best of luck this weekend!

Calling all Inland Empire Power Users!

I am inviting you to participate in this year’s City Nature Challenge! We will be competing for the second time in this global community science event, and our goal is to mobilize even more people and make even more observations of nature than we did last year.

Starting next weekend, make as many observations as you can of nature in the Inland Empire (San Bernardino and Riverside Counties) and submit them to iNaturalist. The observation period is April 30th to May 3rd. Then, we have from May 3rd to May 9th to upload observations and provide Taxonomic IDs. Results are announced on May 10th!

If you haven't already done so, please join our Project Page (https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2021-inland-empire) to receive updates from me, your regional organizer. Spread the word and I look forward to seeing what nature you find next weekend.

Best, Bree Putman
