First Post

It is just one week away from the bioblitz, so I thought starting today I could give some helpful tricks and tips to find the most species.
First off, let me tell all of you about myself.
My name is Robert Levy, and I am a 14 year old naturalist living on Long Island. I am relatively new to Inaturalist, and as of now, I have over 7000 observations. I am an amateur in identifying certain organisms.
I have some tips and tricks below to help everyone get the most species.
First,
Newcomers to Inaturalist are always welcome. Tell your family and friends to be a part of this wonderful community, and take pictures of their natural environment!
Next, for identifying organisms, YOU do not have to go to species every time. If you do not know what species it is, you can put it as "Dicots", or "Carnivores", for example. You can also tag a person that knows more. For example, you can tag me at @yayemaster.
Finally, if you just take 1 photo, or if you take 1000, it still counts towards research purposes. For our newcomers, welcome to the Socially Distant Bioblitz series! And also welcome back for our returning bioblitzers.
Thanks,
Robby

Less than 4 days, folks!

August 16th is quickly approaching and I am thrilled to once more participate from my back yard!
Hi, I'm Margaret and based in Trinidad and Tobago. Rainy season is in full wet mode and I can't wait to see what new observations I come across on Sunday!

To the continuing participants welcome back aboard and we hope you're as enthusiastic and excited as the first time (I know I am). To the new comers we are delighted to have you along and I trust you will be our keen eyes in your part of the world. Please post as few or as many observations on the day as you encounter.

We all look forward to see what is out there. Have a great socially distant bioblitz all!

It Has Started!

Right now, in the Line Islands of Kiribati, Fiji, New Zealand, and Eastern Australia, the bioblitz has started! The first observations should be coming out soon! Remember to take photos of EVERYTHING living you see, take MULTIPLE photos of fungi(including the underside, it is okay to pull it out), take CLEAR photos, and go out to your local preserve and find species. So far the record for the SDB is 479 species, set by @alexis_orion on 6/14/2020. Try to beat that number! The current winner so far is @alexis_orion for observations, @alexis_orion for species, and @slamonde for identifications. Good Luck!!!
Thanks,
Robby
If you need help on a identification/observation, you can tag me @yayemaster, or another person to get an identification. I will try my best to help!

Morning insects from South Korea

Bioblitzer @onidiras has contributed nearly all of our insect species (17) so far, including this friendly-looking Euproctis pulverea moth near Cheonan, South Korea! Widespread rain showers across the western hemisphere tonight and tomorrow may make for difficult mothing, but if you have outdoor lights under an overhang or roof, keep your lights on to see what shows up! @onidiras 's observations bring our early totals to 42 observations and 28 species. Which country will join next?

Observations already span the northern hemisphere

With the addition of observations from Nepal (@karoconniff ), Russia (@melodi_96 , @yaroslavmagazov ), Germany (@amzamz ), the United Kingdom (@rowan_m ), and the United States (@bonnieeamick ), the 7th SDB is off to a strong start across the northern hemisphere!

Around the world right now, it is early evening in Japan, late morning in Germany, and pre-sunrise in North and South America. There are many hours still to go left in this bioblitz, but at 227 species so far, how soon will we reach 500 species?

We have passed the 500 mark!

Goodday Bioblitzers!

We have officially crossed the 500 observations mark, fantastic! So far we have 288 species on the board as @melodi_96 adds beautiful sweet clover and @karoconniff from Nepal submits this gorgeous Lethe baladeva.
Folks @amzamz is leading with 237 observations and 64 species posted so far, let's not fall behind as the Caribbean and North American wakens. Can we get our South American and Latin American naturalists on board shortly?
Have a great bioblitz all and keep the observations coming, I can't wait to see what else catches my eyes!!
