We passed 4,000 observations
A nice holiday milestone for us. Overview: 4,040 observations and 1,050 species as of 3 PM on 12/16. Good going everyone.
Winter is not usually thought of as a great time for insects, mushrooms, and the like, but that’s not so. In our relatively mild climate, we get these things throughout the year, and what you see may be unusual or rare during the warmer months. Keep looking and learning…and enjoying.
For those of you who follow the “Nature & Science” group on ‘Nextdoor', if weather conditions permit, we will be holding a nicely widely spaced 30 minute event on Skidaway Island on Dec, 21st, starting just before sunset, to see the astronomically important ‘conjunction’ of Jupiter and Saturn in the western skies. They will be extremely close together (visually only). This may duplicate the ‘Christmas Star’ event of 2,100 years ago. The next such occurrence will be in 800 years, so we will certainly hope for clear western skies. Exact location to be selected in the next few days.
