interesting red hue to the tentacles, this was a small one, maybe 1cm body
This undescribed cydippid/mertensiid sighting lines up with @cemills observation that they tend to appear around the surface waters around the San Juan Islands when there are two high tides with a very small dip between them. This one was found shortly past the first high tide in this type of series.
The tentacles were very purple in colour - seemed very different from a regular sea gooseberry.
Approximately 6-10 ft in depth
Observed off FHL docks while nightlighting. Photographed in collection cup for clearer image. Two examples of species of mertensid ctenophore currently in the process of description by CE Mills

Collected off FHL dock while nightlighting between 7:25 and 11:15 PM then photographed in lab. Using cydippida as a placeholder as this is a species currently being described by Claudia Mills.
