Morchella casteneae es una especie de hongo de la familia Morchellaceae ( Ascomycota ). Fue descrita como nueva para la ciencia en un estudio de 2012 por Clowez y parece estar confinada a la península Ibérica . [2] Un estudio filogenético y nomenclatural posteriorrealizado por Richard y colegas confirmó que M. castaneae es una especie distintay mostró que los taxones Morchella brunneorosea y Morchella brunneorosea var. sordida son sinónimos. [
‘Conehead’-esque black morel found at ~10.5k elevation. 3 fruiting bodies of 3-4 inches. Found in especially duffy section of mixed conifer forest adjacent to a gentle sloping drainage… quite moist nearby but not in immediate few feet surrounding fruiting bodies.
Nearby trees were almost all young Doug Fir, some typical San Juan understory vegetation abound and abundant outside of duffy area.

This is the second observation of a solitary snyderi/brunnea looking morel fruiting in close proximity to several ‘conehead’-esque black morels.
