Crepis modocensis

I am pretty sure that this is the main Crepis found on shallow lithosol in Washington.

Differerences from it's near look alike Crepis occidentalis:

modocensis has long curly white hairs on the phyllaries. both may have black bristles as well.

modocensis usually has one flower per stem (but not always). If there a bunch of flowers on a stem it is occidentalis (example).

only occidentalis has glandular hairs on the phyllaries (but perhaps not always)

modecensis leaves are usually more deeply divided to nearly pinnate. If the leaf is just toothed or slightly lobed with teeth it is occidentalis (example)
