Bee Project Alert

Greetings Bee-thusiasts!

Here are some fun bee behavior projects on iNat you could add some of your observations to, if appropriate.

BEES CONCENTRATING NECTAR
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/bees-concentrating-nectar
If you're not sure what a bee looks like while it is concentrating nectar, check out the observations in this project. Do you remember any of your observation where you saw this behavior?

BEE NESTS AND BURROWS
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/bee-nests-and-burrows
and
NESTING BEES
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/nesting-bees
Check out these projects to see what different bee nests and burrows look like. Some bees are downright architects. They know how to build!

MATING BEES
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/mating-bees
Exploring this project is a great way to get a sense on when certain species mate and see if there is sexual dimorphism in some of them.

MEGACHILE BEE LEAF CUTS
https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/megachile-bee-leaf-cuts
Check out this project to see what leaves look like after being cut by Megachile bees.

Nevada Nomia (Dieunomia nevadensis)

A Nevada Nomia (Dieunomia nevadensis) was spotted by @thefalcon earlier this week.
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/83842796
This is the first photograph of this species within San Diego County in iNat!
Keep your eyes open when you are out on the trails!
According to James Hung, this bee can be found "immediately along the coast (seems to be all black) or in the desert (mixed red and black)".
Happy hunting :)
